On 1 September 2006,
following the growing membership of the Order, the Grand Master created two
Grand Priories; Southern Australia and Northern Australia from the former
Grand Priory of Australia. |
|
|
|
The
Grand Priory of Southern Australia takes in the States of New South Wales,
South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Australian
Capital Territory. Based in Melbourne, the Grand Priory of Southern
Australia is established as a corporation limited by guarantee with its own
Constitution, which is in accord with the Constitution of the Order. The
Council of the Grand Priory meets regularly and includes in its membership
the Priors of the Priories of New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. |
|
|
|
Comprising mainly Knights and Dames of Honour,
the Grand Priory of Southern
Australia is part of a worldwide network of Priories and Commanderies
representing the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights
Hospitaller. A
Constitution granted by
King Peter II of Yugoslavia in 1963, sets out the general aims of the
Order, which are essentially ecumenical, the Order being committed to
charitable works in aid of the sick, poor and the disadvantaged, and
fostering Christian unity. The current Grand Master of the Order is H.R.H.
Prince Karl Wladimir Karageorgevitch and the Grand Prior of Southern
Australia is H.E. Bailiff Victor J Techritz, AM, GCSJ. |
|
|
|
The Order
in Australia is committed to charitable works and is recognised as a
non-Governmental charitable institution, with donations of $2 or over being
tax-deductible. |

Priory of Southern Australia can be contacted through its Company Secretary, Chevalier D Geoffrey
